There are a few blush colored blossoms on my Tulip Poplar in the front yard and a flush of scarlet azaleas are peeking through my front window.   It is rather bizarre considering it is January, but this has been a strange winter in the South.  My confused blooms are at risk if a frost or snow blusters through, as it is known to do in mid-February and it will make for a much less spectacular Spring.  At least my tulips and daffodils are holding back a bit, so there’s hope.

This taste of an early spring brought to mind parallels with my life.  I have had many instances of timing being off in relationships, jobs, and life events.  I am a pretty scheduled person, rigid some may say, but I tell them I prefer the term “organized”.  Potato, potahto.  So it does throw me for a loop when someone or something messes up my “plans”.  I imagine God having a good laugh each time I think this, shaking his head at his naive daughter.

I have no more control over people and circumstances than I do the flowers blooming in January.  And maybe there is a lesson in my expectations being shaken up and tossed about like a Yahtzee game.  No, it’s not who or what I had planned on.  Yes, there are risks in the unknown.  But in these unexpected seasons, maybe the point is to stop worrying about the possibility of frost and simply enjoy the gift of what is blooming around me.

Beautiful post to match your beautiful blossoms. Yes, I think we need to accept the blooms and even the frosts and know that God has a better plan for us than we could ever plan for ourselves. Have a happy weekend, my friend.
