loves laborMy parents just celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary.  I am so grateful to see a healthy and happy marriage because I realize just how rare they really are.  It is still a hope in my heart that I will find that one day too.  I hear from other single friends how hard it is to find a “good guy” in Atlanta, but I’d like to think there are still a few out there.   This belief was underscored when I came across an article in the AJC about Jim and Trisha Duguay  (Couples Wedding Vows Put to the Test).

Jim and Trisha worked together and over time fell in love, planning the wedding of their dreams this past May.  The big day arrived and Trisha woke up not feeling well at all, but eighteen months of waiting to marry the love of her life was enough to propel her forward towards Jim.  The wedding went on with both of them seated to take their vows as Trisha felt progressively weaker and the reception was shortened by a frantic trip to the emergency room.  Trisha was soon diagnosed with a brain tumor and surgery was scheduled, once they stabilized her, ten days later.  In the interim Jim turned a hospital room into their interrupted honeymoon suite with the help of family, friends and nurses on the floor.  They had discussions about their future and what Trisha looked forward to and what she feared.  Jim never left her side.

She didn’t regain conciousness after her six hour surgery on May 25th and is now in a hospice facility.   Jim has started a facebook page to keep family and friends updated on Trisha (From Bride to Angel) and her parents have asked that donations be made to the local brain tumor foundation for children ( braintumorkids.org) in honor of their daughter.  The family removed her feeding tube three weeks ago and they realize the end is near, whispering to Trisha that they love her and it’s okay to let go of this life.  Jim is still by her side, keeping the vows he took just three months ago, to love, honor and cherish his wife, as long as they both shall live.  Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.

Wow. It’s stories like this that force you to stop all of the unimportant nonsense for a minute and just be.

I’m not someone who throws the “I”m praying for you” line out lightly. I prayed for them as I read this and will continue to.
