Have you seen this video that went viral last week? It is a guy in Yosemite Park gushing about the sight of a double rainbow he is videotaping. Now I like rainbows as much as the next girl, but he really, really likes rainbows!! The video goes on for over 3 minutes and he is crying/laughing/freaking out as he “narrates” his…um…joy. There is even a double rainbow song to commemorate this now famous video.
Paul Vasquez, aka Youtube’s Hungrybear9563 (and I am so not making that up), was quoted on the CBS morning news talking about his intense experience, “”You could actually feel the rays down from the sun, but it was rainbow rays. It was so powerful that it knocked me down…When you hear I’m sobbing I’d been knocked on the ground.” Ummmm, okay. However as much mockery as the man in the video has received for what appears to be an herbally enhanced camping experience, maybe he has it right.
When did something real, not on the web or photo shopped, take your breath away? We have become insulated and immune to natural beauty. I love those experiences when I am caught off guard by something so simple and so incredible at the same time that there are no words, just emotion. So here’s to you Paul Vasquez and your double rainbow freak out!
